Warriors look for win in 50th meeting with rival King’s

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Riding a four-game winning streak, the Lycoming College women’s basketball team will look to beat King’s College for the third time in the past four meetings on Thursday, Dec. 6, at Lamade Gymnasium.

The Warriors (4-2 overall) are coming off a 44-41 triumph over Alvernia to improve to 2-0 in the Commonwealth Conference for the first time since joining the league. Sophomore Julia Antonelli iced the game with a pair of free throws with 1.3 seconds left, as she was one of three players to finish in double figures, joining freshman Ali Derr and junior Rachael Scheller.

King’s (6-2 overall) is coming off a 59-49 loss at Gwynedd-Mercy. The Monarchs shot 27 percent from the floor, but senior Paige Carlin posted 25 points to lead the squad.

• Junior Rachael Scheller and sophomore Julia Antonelli became the first Lycoming pair to earn back-to-back Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week awards since joining the league in 2007-08.

• Antonelli needs one rebound to reach 200 in a career.

• Scheller needs six assists to become the 15th player in school history to reach 150 in a career.

• Senior Chelsea Shearer needs five 3-pointers to become the 17th player in school history to hit 50 in a career.

• Freshmen Ali Derr and Kylee Sutton posted 17 points and 12 rebounds combined in the win over Alvernia.

• The Warriors are second in the Commonwealth Conference with a .331 mark in field goal percentage defense.

• Lycoming has outscored its opponents in the second half in five of six games this year.
