WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - With three straight wins under its belt, the Lycoming College women’s basketball team will head to Alvernia University on Saturday, Dec. 3, looking to turn some heads in the Commonwealth Conference in the early season matchup.
The Warriors (3-2 overall, 1-0 Commonwealth) are led by sophomore Julia Antonelli, who is developing into one of the league’s top players. Through five games, she is the only player in the league averaging a double-double (14.6 points and 10.4 rebounds per game).
The Crusaders (3-2 overall, 0-1 Commonwealth) are coming off a 61-58 loss at Widener. The team is led by its post play, as well, as seniors Angela Altemose and Allie Toczylowski combine for 27.6 points and 14.4 rebounds per contest.
Warrior Notes
• The Warriors are riding their first three-game winning streak since the 2008-09 squad won seven in a row.
• Senior Chelsea Shearer needs five 3-pointers to become the 17th player in school history to hit 50 in a career.
• Sophomore Julia Antonelli notched a career-high 22 points and added 12 rebounds in her second double-double of the season at Albright.
• Antonelli’s 10-of-10 performance at the line at Albright is the first perfect double-digit effort at the line in the league since Arcadia’s Angie Adams went 10-of-10 at Messiah on Feb. 12, 2011. There have only been seven such performances in the Commonwealth since Lycoming joined the league in 2007-08.
• Senior Erin Connaghan reached 250 career points with her last of 14 against Albright.
• Junior Rachael Scheller needs 10 points to reach 400 in her career.
• In the past two games, the Warriors have forced 54 turnovers, benefitting with 32 steals and 32 points off turnovers.
