Warriors look to wrap up GMC Tip-Off Tournament with win over Royals

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Lycoming College women’s basketball team faces an old nemesis to wrap up the Gwynedd-Mercy Tip-Off Tournament, as it will face former Freedom Conference rival Scranton in a 12 p.m. consolation game.

The Warriors (0-1 overall) outscored preseason Colonial State Athletic Conference favorite Gwynedd-Mercy by eight points in the second half, but fell 61-53, in the opening round of the tournament. Sophomore Julia Antonelli led the Warriors with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Scranton (0-2 overall), one of the most storied women’s basketball programs in the nation, fell to Delaware Valley, 53-48. Katherine Torto led the Royals with 11 points and Sarah Gage added 12 rebounds.

Game Notes
• The freshman forward trio of Kat Andriani, Ali Derr, and Kylee Sutton combined for 11 points and 14 rebounds against Gwynedd-Mercy.

• Junior Rachael Scheller needs three 3-pointers to become the 16th player in school history to can 50 in a career.

• Scheller’s 96 assists as a sophomore were the eighth-most in school history.

• Sophomore Julia Antonelli reached 150 career rebounds with her eighth and final board against Gwynedd-Mercy.

• Senior Erin Connaghan needs one steal to become the 50th player in school history to post 50 in a career.

• Senior Chelsea Shearer finished ninth in the league in 2010-11 with an average of 1.3 3-point field goals made per game.

• Shearer posted her 10th career game with two or more 3-pointers made against Gwynedd-Mercy.
