Box Score GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Despite outscoring preseason Colonial States Athletic Conference favorite Gwynedd-Mercy by eight points in the second half, the Lycoming College women’s basketball team fell to the Griffins in the Warriors’ season opener, 61-53, at the GMC Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night, Nov. 18.

Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) led the Warriors (0-1 overall) with 17 points and eight rebounds and senior
Chelsea Shearer (East York, Pa./Dallastown) posted 10 points and canned two 3-pointers. Junior
Rachael Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) added seven points, three assists and four steals and senior
Erin Connaghan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) notched six points and a block.
After a 3-pointer from Shearer made it 13-11 in favor of the Griffins (1-1 overall) with 11:34 left, the Griffins went on a 24-8 run over the next nine minutes to take a 37-19 lead, helping them take a 37-21 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Warriors cut the lead to seven points three times, but couldn’t get any closer. The Warriors scored the last seven points of the game to make up the final eight-point difference, as the team shot 46 percent from the field in the second half.
Lycoming outshot Gwynedd-Mercy, 37.5 percent to 33.9 percent, but the Griffins grabbed seven more offensive rebounds to help make up for the difference.
Brittany Neill led the Griffins with 18 points, four steals and three assists and Jordan Dominic added 12 points on four 3-pointers.
The Warriors face Scranton in the consolation game of the GMC Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 12 p.m., as Delaware Valley knocked off the Royals, 53-48, in the opening game of the tournament. Gwynedd-Mercy plays the Aggies in the championship at 2 p.m.
