Warriors open season at Penn State-Wilkes-Barre

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Basketball season is back, as the Lycoming College men’s basketball team will open up its 2011-12 season on Tuesday at Penn State-Wilkes-Barre at 8 p.m.

The Warriors finished 2010-11 with a 15-10 record and were selected to finish third in the Commonwealth Conference preseason poll. The team features the last two conference rookies of the year in junior point guard Jerald Williams, who finished fourth in Division III in assists (7.3) and sixth in steals (3.0) per game in 2010-11, and sophomore forward Kevin Anthony, who averaged 9.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game as a rookie.

The Mountain Lions (1-0 overall) defeated Johnson College, 75-58, in the season opener, as sophomore Keith Johnson led the team with 13 points.

Warrior Notes
• Penn State-Wilkes-Barre head coach Scott Miner served as a Lycoming assistant coach for two seasons between 2003-06.

• The Warriors have won their last three season openers and are 37-26 (.587) in openers since starting to play a full collegiate schedule in 1948-49.

• The Warriors led the Commonwealth Conference in scoring (78.8), rebounding offense (42.8), rebounding margin (+5.6), assists (16.9) and steals (10.3) in 2010-11.

• Junior Jerald Williams has led the conference in steals in each of his first two years and he is 22 steals from the school’s career record of 181.

• Junior Ihsaan Davis is one of 13 players in school history to score 300 points in each of his first two seasons.

• Sophomore Michael Rudy posted nine points and nine rebounds against Penn State-Wilkes-Barre in 2010.
