Jackie Oliva (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) and sophomore
Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) each earned spots on the 14
th Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament Team to help lead the Lycoming College volleyball team to a runner-up finish at the tournament, beating McDaniel, 3-0 to reach the championship before falling to Ithaca, 3-2.
Oliva led the team with 40 kills and 10 blocks during the tournament and McKillop averaged 8.40 assists and 2.67 digs per set.
The Warriors (11-9 overall) made quick work of McDaniel in the last round of the round robin portion of the tournament to earn a bid to the championship match, posting a 25-15, 25-15, 25-10 win while using 15 players in the match. Oliva and sophomore
Chelsee Strine (South Boardman, Mich./Forest Area) each notched six kills to lead the team.
McKillop added 20 assists, two aces and nine digs and sophomore
Kassidy Sedore (Stormville, N.Y./Spackenkill) notched six digs and a kill and freshman
Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) posted two kills, two aces and seven digs. In two sets, sophomore
Kendra Bitner (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) added three kills and a block and sophomore
Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) posted three kills in one set.
Anne McShea led McDaniel (0-19 overall) with eight kills and seven digs and Brooke Sillaman added 13 assists and three digs.
The Bombers (13-11 overall) reached the finals with a 3-1 win over Misericordia to finish the round robin portion of the tournament with a perfect 3-0 mark, but they had all they could handle in the championship match when they faced the Warriors, barely surviving with a 3-2 win (25-27, 25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 15-9) after they had dispatched the Warriors, 3-0, on Friday.
The Warriors got several solid performances in the match, led by a double-double from Seibel, who posted 21 kills and 14 digs and Oliva, who notched 16 kills, six blocks and two digs. Gear added 14 kills and three blocks. Sedore posted 18 digs, three aces and two assists and McKillop notched 50 assists, two kills and seven digs.
Kate Thoene led the Bombers with 23 kills and eight blocks and Karin Edsall posted 56 assists, five digs, two blocks and two aces. Marissa Woodcome notched 15 digs and four aces and tournament MVP Jessica Hoeffner posted 11 kills and 13 digs.
In the third-place match, Misericordia posted a 3-0 win over McDaniel, 25-8, 25-23, 25-13.
The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Oct. 12, when they host Widener in a key Commonwealth Conference matchup at 7 p.m. Widener is tied for second in the league with a 3-1 mark and Lycoming is tied for fourth with a 2-2 mark.
