WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Three players finished with 10 or more kills and sophomore
Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) posted 39 assists and 16 digs for a double-double to highlight a 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 27-25, 25-16) win over Misericordia to highlight the Lycoming College volleyball team’s opening night at the 14
th Tip-Off Classic at Lamade Gym on Friday, Oct. 7. In the opening match, the Warriors fell to Ithaca, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-8).
The Warriors (10-8 overall) will look to earn a bid to the championship match of the classic when they face McDaniel (0-17 overall) in the final round of the round robin at 10 a.m. Ithaca already earned a spot in the championship match with two wins on the first day, beating McDaniel, 25-8, 25-13, 25-10. Misericordia is also 1-1 at the event, beating McDaniel, 25-11, 25-7, 25-13, but need a Lycoming loss or to sweep Ithaca on Saturday at 10 a.m. to earn a slot in the championship, which will be at 12:30 p.m.
The Bombers were led by 14 kills from Jessica Hoeffner and 13 kills from Kate Thoene as they hit a sensational .440 (42-5-84) in the sweep of Lycoming in the tournament’s opening round.
In the first set, the Warriors hit a hot .351, but Ithaca hit .500 en route to the 25-21 win. In the second and third sets, the Bombers (11-11 overall) hit .400 to earn the sweep.
McKillop finished with 17 assists and eight digs and the trio of freshman

Heather Keller (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) and sophomore
Kassidy Sedore (Stormville, N.Y./Spackenkill) each added seven digs. Junior
Jackie Oliva (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) added seven kills and Seibel addes six kills.
Karin Edsall led the Bombers with 24 assists and 11 digs and Marissa Weil added seven kills and two blocks. Chelsea Hays posted three aces.
Sophomore
Lacey Sollenberger (New Enterprize, Pa./North Bedford) led the Warriors with 14 kills and Oliva added 11 in the nightcap, as the Warriors posted 51 kills and 81 digs to outlast Misericordia, 3-1.
Sollenberger, who has been back just one week from an injury that had kept her from the lineup for the first 13 matches of the year, posted a season-high 37 attack attempts and added a block. Sophomore
Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) posted 10 kills and Sedore notched a career-high 29 digs to go with three aces. Freshman
Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) notched 14 digs and three aces and Keller notched 11 digs and nine kills. Freshman
Sara Petokas (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) notched three kills and match-high five blocks.
With the score tied at 21 in the first set, Oliva, McKillop and Gear posted consecutive kills to help the Warriors take control en route to the 25-21 win. After a second-set loss, the Warriors made a frantic comeback in the third set from a 20-15 deficit to tie the match at 24 after Sedore served up three straight points while facing match point. A block by Oliva and an ace from McKillop wrapped up the 27-25 win for the Warriors. In the fourth set, the Warriors jumped out to a 14-6 lead and never led the Cougars (7-8 overall) back within four points before closing out the set with five straight points.
Carly Zaklukiewicz led the Cougars with nine kills and 17 digs and Cailin McCullion added seven kills, four aces and a team-high 21 digs. Krystal Burford posted seven kills and Kristin Hoffman added a double-double with 30 assists and 11 digs. Nicole Korgeski notched five kills, eight digs and four blocks.
