FAIRFAX, Va. – Freshman
Patrick Dougher (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) debuted with a game-high 15 points to lead the Lycoming College men’s basketball team, but a late first-half run of 18 straight points by George Mason, who is receiving votes in the ESPN/
USA Today Division I Coaches’ poll, were enough to lift it to a 90-62 exhibition game win on Halloween at the Patriot Center.
“He did a great job,” Lycoming head coach
Guy Rancourt said of Dougher. “He comes from a long line of basketball players. He’s a cerebral player. I think he is going to be a great complement to our team. Very few things get him rattled.”
Dougher had a sterling start to his career for the Warriors, canning his first three treys and scoring 11 points in the half. Dougher’s strong play helped the Warriors stay with the Patriots for much of the half, as the teams fought through nine lead changes in the first 14 minutes of the half, as Dougher’s last three gave the Warriors a 24-22 lead.
In the last six minutes of the half, though, the Patriots went on a 26-4 run as Mike Morrison led them with seven points during the run.
“We just wanted to see that we are making progress today,” Rancourt said. “We’ll take this game and break it down and pull some good things out of this.”
The Warriors got out to a 7-2 run to begin the second half, as Dougher posted a pair of jumpers and junior
Ihsaan Davis (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King) canned a three to cut the lead to 46-35, but the Patriots scored the next 10 points to take control the rest of the game.
Dougher added two assists and two rebounds and the Warriors were aided by 13 points and three rebounds from sophomore
Kevin Anthony (Columbus, Ohio/Bridgton Academy) and nine points from Davis. Senior
Mike Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep) added seven points and three boards and junior
Jerald Williams (Riverdale, Md./Bladensburg) posted four points, two steals, a team-high five rebounds and a game-high six assists.
Bryon Allen and Erik Copes led the Patriots with 13 points and Mike Morrison, Jonathan Arledge and preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association pick Ryan Pearson each added 11. Pearson notched 10 rebounds.
The Warriors now get set to open the regular season on Nov. 15 when they head to Penn State-Wilkes-Barre for an 8 p.m. tip.
