WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team made a frantic rally from down 12 points with 9:46 left, but a 3-point attempt as time wound down fell off the rim and helped Widener University escape Lamade Gym with a 75-74 Commonwealth Conference win on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 8.

Down 74-64 with 3:14 left, the Warriors (10-4 overall, 0-3 Commonwealth) began a rally with a driving layup from sophomore Ihsaan Davis (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King). After a turnover, senior Will Kelly (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) found Davis for a 3-pointer to make it 74-69 with 1:58 left. The Warriors quickly got another turnover, but missed a pair of 3-pointers before committing a pair of fouls on the floor to give them five in the half.

Another Pride turnover on a tight play at the sideline led to another driving layup from Davis, making it 74-71 with 56 seconds left. The Warriors nearly got a 10-second backcourt call before fouling and later in the possession, they finally reached the seventh foul to send B.J. Smith to the line. Smith hit the front end with 36 seconds left, setting up another 3-pointer from Davis with 27 seconds left.

The Warriors fouled with 16 seconds left and Andrew Radomicki missed the first of a 1-and-1, but the ball went out of bounds on the Warriors with 14 seconds left. The Warriors did force a turnover with seven seconds left, but a closing 3-pointer fell off the rim as time expired, giving the Pride (8-5 overall, 3-0 Commonwealth) the win.

A 29-5 run that occupied 10 minutes in between the two halves helped the Pride take a 46-55 lead with 14:13 left. The Pride got the lead to 12 points after a dunk from Nick Moore with 9:46 left, but the Warriors responded with eight straight points, capped by a jumper from junior Mike Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep) that made it 68-64 with 5:46 left.

The Pride scored the next six points, though, with a layup from Jarrell Nelson, making it 74-64 with 3:14 left, setting up the dramatic finish.

Lycoming started the game quick, with sophomore Jerald Williams (Riverdale, Md./Bladensburg) hitting a three to open the game, then posting a steal and converting a fastbreak layup to help the Warriors out to an early 10-2 lead after hitting his second trey.

The Pride cut the lead to three points after a 3-pointer from Jack Brennan with 12:13 left, but the Warriors responded with a 20-8 run to rake a 41-26 lead after a fastbreak layup by Williams with 3:22 left. However, the Pride started their run from there, going on an 12-3 run to close the half before opening the second half on a 17-2 run.

Williams scored a career-high 22 points and added seven assists and three steals for the Warriors and freshman Kevin Anthony (Atlanta, Ga./Bridgton Academy) posted his second double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go with two blocks.
