Men's and women's lacrosse set to play Widener in playoffs

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Both the Lycoming College men’s and women’s lacrosse teams drew Widener University for the quarterfinals of the 2010 Middle Atlantic Conference tournament. As the No. 3 seed, the men will host the Pride at 4 p.m. on Monday, May 3. The Lady Warriors earned a fifth-place seeding and will travel to Chester, Pa. on Tuesday, May 4 for a 4 p.m. start. Both the men's and the women's games will have live statistical feeds, and the men’s game will be covered by ESPNWilliamsport 104.1 FM and 1050 AM with a Web stream.

Ticket prices for both games have been set by the conference office at $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $2 for students. Child under six will be admitted free of charge.

The men’s game will be the third consecutive season the Warriors (11-5, 9-2) have hosted the Pride in a playoff game. Earlier this season, Lycoming overpowered Widener (7-9, 6-5) 15-7 on Saturday, April 24. In that contest, sophomore attackman Ethan Payne posted 10 points with six goals and four assists against the 2009 conference runner up.

Lycoming’s offense is led by senior attacker Nate Walter, who has tallied a conference-best 32 assists along with 27 goals for 59 points, averaging 3.6 per game. Payne is second on the squad with 56 points on 45 goals and 11 assists. Lycoming has one of the best man-down defenses in the country, ranked No. 20, killing .814 percent of their penalties. Between the pipes, junior Alan Antinarelli has made 140 stops this season, saving .574 percent of the 420 shots he has faced, allowing just 7.5 goals per game.

On the women’s side, the Lady Warriors (9-7, 8-4) will make their fifth consecutive playoff appearance, dating back to the 2006 season when Lycoming reached the conference championship game. In the regular season meeting this season, Lycoming fell victim to a late surge by the Pride (11-6, 8-4), dropping the home game 12-11 on Saturday, March 20.

The Lady Warriors offense is led by senior Megan McIntyre and her 72 points, stemming from 45 goals and 27 assists, ranking her sixth in the MAC in points per game (4.50). Seniors Justine Titko and Amanda Baker are second and third in points, respectively. Titko has 49 on 34 goals and 15 assists while Baker has 43 with 28 goals and 15 helpers. In the cage, senior Brittany Bryan has made 141 saves and carries a .500 save percentage. With Bryan between the pipes, Lycoming has allowed only 24 free position shots against 81 opponent attempts.
