Box Score 2 READING, Pa. – In its final game of the 2010 season, the Lycoming College softball team split a twin billing with Alvernia University on Saturday, May 1. The Lady Warriors took the first game 8-4 but dropped the second contest 9-2.
The Lady Warriors (14-24, 4-10) rallied in the first game, posting four runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the contest and won it with another four runs in the 10th frame. Following international rules, freshman
Allyson Marianelli was placed on second base and was driven home by fellow freshman
Ashley Demchak hit a single. Freshman
Tierra Miller was brought in as a pinch hitter in the 10th and eventually scored an unearned run. Freshman
Amy Cline proved to be extra scoring security after she too scored an unearned run.
Freshman Holly Lansberry pitched all 10 innings, striking out six batters and recording three assists. Courtney Black (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) tallied eight putouts at first base while Manda Peck (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) registered five.
In the second game, a five-run third inning from the Crusaders (22-14, 7-7) was the nail in the Warriors’ coffin, only scoring two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Demchak and Black were the lone run scorers while Lycoming stranded six base runners.
Lycoming concludes the season with the most wins since the 2005 season when it won 17.
