SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lycoming College softball team split a doubleheader with the University of Scranton on Wednesday, April 7. Led by two homeruns, the Lady Warriors won the first game 4-1, but dropped the second contest 8-5.

In the first tilt, Lycoming used slow and steady run scoring to earn the victory, scoring four runs in four different innings. The Lady Warriors (8-16) picked up solo homeruns off the bats of freshman Brieanne Braga and Janelle Poorman. Sophomore Manda Peck tallied the other two Warrior runs, one in the third inning and the second in the seventh. Freshman Holly Lansberry was the game's winning pitcher, striking out 11 of the 30 batters she faced and allowed just four hits. Freshman Laura Taylor recorded 11 putouts as a catcher.

Scranton (6-8) started the scoring early in the second game, grabbing a 4-0 lead in the first inning and scored a fifth run in the second. Lycoming’s bats came alive in the top of the third inning, knotting the game at five apiece. Peck and Taylor reached home, as did Amy Cline and Tierra Miller. Freshman Allyson Marianelli took advantage of Scranton’s pitcher miscues, reaching second after Miller was hit by a pitch, and got to third and scored on back-to-back wild pitches. But the Royals scored another three runs in the fourth inning to seal the win. Marianelli had a busy game in center field, posting five putouts.

The Lady Warriors are back in action on Saturday, April 10 in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Widener University in Chester, Pa. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
