CHESTER, Pa. – The Lycoming College softball team dropped a pair of Commonwealth Conference match ups to Widener University on Saturday, April 10. The Pride won the first game 5-3 and took the second contest 5-1.
With one swing of the bat, freshman
Janelle Poorman tied the game at three with a home run to center field, bringing in sophomore
Manda Peck and freshman
Amy Cline, both of whom reached the bases on singles. But the Lady Warriors could not continue the rally while the Pride (18-8, 4-4) tallied two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Senior first baseman
Courtney Black recorded five putouts while Peck posted five assists. Freshman
Holly Lansberry was the pitcher of record for Lycoming, striking out four of the 28 batters she faced.
In the second game, Cline scored the only run for Lycoming (8-18, 2-6), reaching first on a line drive down the left field line. Poorman picked up the RBI after singling to right field, allowing Cline to reach home plate.
Brieanne Braga struck out four batter in her 4.1 innings of work.
Lycoming returns to the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex for a doubleheader versus local rival Susquehanna University on Sunday, April 11. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
