GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Lycoming College softball team suffered a pair of losses to defending national champion and No. 5 ranked Messiah College on Thursday, April 1. The Lady Warriors were blanked 7-0 in the first game and fell 9-1 in the second contest.
Playing as the designated hitter, freshman
Holly Lansberry scored the lone run for Lycoming (7-15, 2-4) after being batted in by fellow freshman
Laura Taylor.
In the first game,
Courtney Black tallied a team-high five putouts at first base. Right fielder
Janelle Poorman went one-for-three at the plate while Lansberry recorded one hit in her two at-bats.
During game two,
Amy Cline reached base on two of her three trips to the plate. Senior third baseman
Jess Nabholz picked up hits on two fielder’s choice plays and drove a single to right field. Black tallied another four putouts, with two assists coming from Nabholz.
Lycoming is back on the diamond Wednesday, April 7 when it travels to the University of Scranton for a non-conference double header. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
