WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Playing in its first home game of the 2010 season, the Lycoming College softball team split a doubleheader with Wilkes University, dropping the first game 6-4, but getting 21 hits en route to a 10-3 victory on Sunday, March 21.
Lycoming (4-12) scored three of its four runs in the second inning of the first game, with
Jess Nabholz and
Janelle Poorman coming across home plate after freshman
Ashley Demchak blasted a homerun over the center field fence. The Lady Colonels spread their runs out, scoring in four innings, with two in both the first and second inning, and one each during the fifth and sixth inning. Pinch hitting for Lycoming,
Bethany Garnand tallied the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Game two was a different story for the Warriors’ offense, with six different batters getting multiple hits and eight different players scoring runs. Nabholz went four-for-four in the game and earned two RBIs. Lycoming broke open a close 4-3 game, putting together a six-run sixth inning, including batting through the order.

Amy Cline had three hits in her two at-bats and drove in another run.
Courtney Black had two hits in three at-bats. Freshman
Holly Lansberry, the game’s winning pitcher, helped her own cause, sending two runners home while also going three-for-four at the plate.
Nabholz went six-for-eight on the day, while Black recorded 10 putouts. In the second game, Lansberry struck out seven of the 28 batters she faced, tallying another three putouts, including the final out of the day.
Lycoming is on the road when it travels to Dallas, Pa. to face Misericordia University in a Middle Atlantic Conferences cross over game. The game is slated to begin at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 25.
