Softball drops pair of close games versus Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Squaring off against the team selected to finish second in the Commonwealth Conference, the Lycoming College softball team fell in a pair of games against the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College, 4-0 and 2-0. Senior Courtney Black recorded 12 putouts in the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday, March 20.

In the first game, Lycoming’s Holly Lansberry was the starting pitcher and tallied seven strikeouts against the 20 batters she faced. The Warriors (3-11, 0-2) were kept off the bases until the fifth inning when senior Jess Nabholz was walked. Black reached on a fielder’s choice. Manda Peck hit a single in the sixth inning, followed by Allyson Marianelli who hit a double.

The Lycoming batters fared much better in game two, recording six hits, but costly errors allowed the Dutchmen (9-3, 2-0) to put runners into a scoring position. Black went two-for-two at the plate in the second game, while also tallying an afternoon-best 12 putouts at first plate. Lycoming also got hits from Peck, Lansberry, Marianelli and Amy Cline.

Lycoming hosts Wilkes University for a doubleheader on Sunday, March 21 in its first home game of the 2010 season. The first pitch is set to be thrown at 1 p.m.
