TOWSON, Md. – After a change in time and location, the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team dropped its final non-conference game of the season 18-7 to No. Stevenson University on Saturday, March 13. Senior attackman Nate Walter had three goals, two of which were on man up.
The Mustangs (5-0) scored first before Lycoming senior
Ed Williams evened the score. Stevenson put together a five-goal run to end the first quarter up 6-1. The Warriors' defense settled itself in the second period, with each team only able to score one goal. Lycoming’s tally came out of the stick of freshman
Tom Lurie, with the assist going to fellow freshman
Pat Mahar.
The special team units of each squad had a busy first half, with the Warriors taking four penalties and the Mustangs going down a man on three occasions. Stevenson held a 27-17 advantage in shots during the first half, but the Warriors outshot the Mustangs 12-8 in the second quarter.
Lycoming (2-3) stumbled in the third quarter, allowing Stevenson to score another six goals, while only tallying two.
Walter scored both of the Warriors’ third quarter goals, with the second coming on an extra man oppourtunity with the assist from
Ethan Payne.
The Warriors found the back of the net three times in the fourth quarter. The first tally was scored by Payne on a pass from
Josh Perrault and the second was the first career goal for freshman Stephen Romano. Walter scored another man-up goal with 1:56 left in the game. Senior
Brad Schaeffer was awarded the assist on Walter’s goal.
Walter finished with three goals, two of which came on man up opportunities. Payne, Williams, Romano and Lurie all tallied one goal. Four of Lycoming’s seven goals were assisted by four different players in Mahar, Payne, Perrault and Schaeffer.
For the first time this season, Lycoming struggled at the faceoff spot, winning just 12 of the 27 attempts during the game. In goal, junior netminder
Alan Antinarelli had 15 saves on 60 Mustang shots. Fellow junior
Josh Danmyer played in over six minutes, making one save. Stevenson held a narrow 32-27 advantage in groundballs.
Lycoming is idle until it opens its Middle Atlantic Conference schedule on Wednesday, March 24 at Misericordia University. Game time is set for 4 p.m. in Dallas, Pa.
