Women's basketball falls to No. 21 Lebanon Valley 66-54

Lycoming College women’s basketball team lost at No. 21 ranked Lebanon Valley in a Commonwealth Conference matchup on Wednesday, Feb. 3. Junior Kaitlyn Ober led Lycoming in shooting, hitting six of her 10 shots.

Ober scored eight first half points, putting in four of her five attempts. She also grabbed three rebounds, two of which were on defense to help Lycoming score four second chance points. Senior guard Jessica Zerbee recorded five points, two assists and a steal. Amanda Hart registered two steals.

As a team, Lycoming (6-14, 3-6) shot 35.5 percent (11-of-31) from the field. The Lady Dutchmen (19-1, 9-0) played with discipline and kept the Warriors from taking a free throw shot in the first half, committing just one personal foul. Lebanon Valley took a 39-26 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Ober continued her strong play, putting up another eight points, doing most of her damage from the free throw line, hitting all four of her second half attempts. She also pulled in another three rebounds. Guard Alicia Engler posted eight second half points, going three-of-five from the field, hitting her one three-point attempt as well as her only free throw. Zerbee chipped in with three assists.

Lebanon Valley was led by Andrea Hoover, who tallied 14 points, including all eight from the charity stripe. Suzie Noyes scored 11 Dutchmen points. Both players grabbed seven rebounds, with Hoover leading the defensive boards with six rebounds.

Ober was the game’s leading scorer with 16 points. She was also the Warriors’ leading rebounder with six, including four on offense. Zerbee finished the game with eight points, five assists and three rebounds. Engler’s eight points were all scored in the second half.

As a team, Lycoming hit 21 of its 56 field goal attempts (37.5 percent) and grabbed 31 rebounds, 21 of which came on defense. The Lady Warriors shot 83.3 percent (five-for-six) from the free throw line.

Lycoming returns to Lamade Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 6, when it hosts Arcadia University. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.

Notes: Zerbee has had nine games with five or more assists … she has led the team in assists 12 times this season … Ober’s 16 points are her third-most this season (20 against Arcadia on Jan. 16) … Lycoming defeated Arcadia on the road 65-58 in the first meeting this season ... Lebanon Valley is the third nationally ranked team Lycoming has played this season (No. 5 Kean on Jan. 3 and No. 14 Messiah College on Jan. 13)
