ANNVILLE, Pa. –
In a game that came down to last-minute free throws, the Lycoming College men’s basketball team could not hold off the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College, falling 75-72 in overtime. The two teams combined for 30 free throw shots in the second half and overtime.
Lebanon Valley (8-12, 4-5) had a slim 61-59 advantage over Lycoming with 26 seconds left in the game. After the Dutchmen missed a pair of free throws that would have sealed the win,
Mike Bradley came down with the rebound and found
Eric Anthony on a fast break. Anthony rolled in the layup to tie the game with five seconds left and forced overtime at 61 apiece.
In the extra period, Lycoming (16-4, 6-3) was down by as many as six with 1:32 remaining on the clock. Bradley and
Sebastian Sabella each scored layups to cut the Dutchman lead to two. The Warriors were forced to foul, and could only watch as Lebanon Valley hit four of its last five free throws.
Opening the game, Lycoming had seven different scorers, paced by
Ihsaan Davis' eight points.
Will Kelly and
Jerald Williams each had four points, while Kelly was Lycoming’s leading rebounder with six boards.
James Oberlies came up with three steals.
Lycoming hit 10 of its 32 first half shots (31.3 percent), including three-of-seven from deep. The Warriors were strong on the offensive glass, pulling down six rebounds. Lycoming trailed Lebanon Valley by a narrow 28-24 margin.
In the second half and overtime, Anthony gave the team the boost it needed with 13 points and six rebounds. Freshman
Johnathan Williams put up eight points while pulling down three rebounds. Davis had three rebounds and two points. Kelly and Bradley each recorded four points.
Anthony finished the game as the Warriors' leading scorer with 20 points. Anthony and Oberlies tied as the leading rebounders, each getting six. Oberlies was the leader on defense, snagging four steals. Jerald Williams finished as the assist leader with four.
As a team, Lycoming shot 36.7 percent (29-79) from the floor, including 16-of-39 (41.0 percent) in the second half. Rebounding was close throughout the game, with the Dutchmen edging Lycoming 48-47. The Warriors combined for 15 steals and forced Lebanon Valley into 30 turnovers.
The Dutchmen had four scorers in double figures, led by Joe Meehan with 24 points. Anthony Troutman and Jordan Stewart each had 14 while Dan Dunkelberger added 13. He also had a game-high 12 rebounds.
Lycoming is back on its home court on Saturday, Feb. 6, when it hosts Arcadia University. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. following a women’s game.
