Lady Warrior hoops honor seniors, fall 75-64 to Widener

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Lycoming College women’s basketball team honored its senior class prior to its final game of the 2009-10 season. The Lady Warriors fell to Widener University 75-64 on Saturday, Feb. 20.

Before the senior day presentations, head coach Christen Ditzler and the team presented a $2,450 check to the Kathryn Candor Lundy Breast Health Center in Williamsport, Pa. The money was raised during the PinkZone game on Saturday, Feb. 13.

The first half featured two ties and three lead changes. The Pride (15-10, 11-3) held a lead as large as 12, taking a 40-28 advantage into the locker room. Senior Jessica Zerbee and Kaitlyn Ober each had a team-best six points. Zerbee also handed out three assists. Senior Alicia Engler posted five points, while fellow senior Rebecca Leid tied for the game high in rebounds with four.

In the second half, seniors Gina Manbeck and Allison Mock each tallied six points. Amanda Hart also chipped in five points. Ober (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) posted four points and three assists. The Lady Warriors forced Widener into 10 turnovers, seven of which were on Lycoming steals, led by Hart’s two.

Ober finished the game as the Warriors’ leading scorer with 10. Zerbee, Mock and senior Renee Freeden each tallied nine points while Manbeck and Hart each posted seven. Freeden capped her career with three steals.

Lycoming (7-18, 4-8) had a solid day from the field, hitting 46.3 (25-54) percent of its shots, including 15 of 27 in the second half. The Warriors had difficulty with rebounds, with the Pride grabbing 42 to Lycoming’s 24. Lycoming had 16 baskets assisted, led by Zerbee and Ober, each with four.

The Pride had four players in double-figures, paced by Kate Dellinger’s 15 points and Lil Carney’s 14. Casey Pritz and Becky Tyler each tallied 10 points. Dellinger had the game-high in rebounds with 11. Widener had difficulty shooting in the second half, hitting 10 of its 28 shots. In the first half, Widener hit 58.6 (17 of 29) percent of its attempts.

The 2009-10 senior class consists of Zerbee, Engler, Mock, Manbeck, Leid, Freeden, Hart and student-assistant Samantha Ruby.
