Late men's basketball surge comes up short, fall 92-85 to E'town

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Despite an 11-5 run in the final 40 seconds of the game, the Lycoming College men’s basketball team’s late surge fell short, dropping the contest 92-85 to Elizabethtown College on Thursday, Feb. 20. Four Lycoming players reached double figures in scoring.

Elizabethtown opened the game on a 17-4 run, and maintained the difference through the first half, taking a 46-31 lead into the locker room at halftime. Will Kelly was one of only two players in the game to reach double-digits, putting up 12 points, while also leading the half in rebounds with seven. Austin Smith grabbed four rebounds while Jerald Williams had two assists.

Lycoming (19-5, 9-4) outscored Elizabethtown 54-46 in the second half, but could not eliminate the deficit. Freshman Ihsaan Davis tallied 18 second-half points and grabbed four boards. Senior guard Eric Anthony posted 10 points and had four steals. Jerald Williams recorded five points, five assists and four rebounds.

Kelly finished the game with a team-best 19 points, followed by Davis’ 18. Anthony totaled 13 points and five steals, while Johnathan Williams chipped in 12 points with five rebounds. Jerald Williams had a game second-best seven assists and also grabbed three steals.

As a team, Lycoming shot 32.9 percent from the field, including 13 of 29 from beyond the arc. The Warriors were active on the offensive boards, grabbing 20 rebounds. Both teams grabbed 50 rebounds. Lycoming forced the Blue Jays into 22 turnovers, 16 of which came on Warrior steals.

Elizabethtown (15-8, 7-6) had four players reach double-digits. Bryan Harrity had a game-high 21 points, followed by Keith Fogel’s 19. Mike Church finished with 14 points while Josh Houseal tallied 10. Church had a game-high 12 rebounds.

Lycoming concludes its regular season on Saturday, Feb. 20 when it hosts Widener University. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. Prior to the game, the Warriors will honor their senior class.
