WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Head coach Christen Ditzler and the Lycoming College women’s basketball team will be hosting a PinkZone game to raise awareness for breast cancer on Saturday, Feb. 13. Fans are encouraged to wear pink at the game as the Lady Warriors host Alvernia University at 1 p.m.
All proceeds from the game will benefit the Kathryn Candor Lundy Breast Health Center in Williamsport. Lycoming is one of more than 1,000 high schools, colleges and universities participating in a PinkZone game this season.
The WBCA Pink Zone® initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death for all women and the leading overall cause of cancer death in women between the ages of 20 and 59. The 2009 campaign raised over $1.3 million, reached over 912,000 fans, unified more than 1,600 participating teams and organizations, and saw 56+ schools break attendance records at their event. The Lycoming Women's basketball team has been a participant every year.
The most common risk factors of breast cancer are sex, age, personal history, family history and breast cancer genes.
