WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Despite shooting a season-high 54 percent from the field, the Lycoming College women’s basketball team was unable to overcome a King’s College team that hit 11 3-pointers and scored 27 points off turnover to take a 77-67 decision on Thursday night at the Scandlon Gymnasium in non-conference action.

Freshman Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) posted 15 points to go with four rebounds and three assists and sophomore Leeann Randall (Audobon, Pa./Methacton) added a career-high 16 points, four rebounds and two assists to lead the Warriors (4-5 overall), who hit 25-of-46 shots from the field.

The Monarchs (6-3 overall) took a 17-point lead early in the second half at 50-33, but a pair of buckets from Antonelli helped the Warriors start a 14-2 run that was capped by a trey from junior Chelsea Shearer (Dallaswown, Pa./Dallastown) to cut the lead to five points with 9:49 left. Seven straight points from Molly Dahl, though, helped the Monarchs’ regain a double-figure lead.

The Warriors, thanks to a layup from senior Kaitlyn Ober (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and five points from Randall, the Warriors cut the lead back to six points with 6:27 left. Randall also cut the deficit to five points with 4:39 left, but a 3-pointer from Celia Rader helped the Monarchs’ maintain a three-possession lead for the rest of the game.

Eight 3-pointers and forcing 16 first-half turnovers helped King’s get out to an early lead. The Monarchs took a 15-7 lead early in the half, but the Warriors fought back, as senior Rebecca Spencer (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) hit a layup and Shearer converted a 3-pointer to cut the lead to three points with 15:09 in the half. A jumper from Antonelli cut the lead to one point midway through the half and a traditional 3-point play from junior Erin Connaghan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) tied the game at 19 before another jumper from Antonelli gave the Warriors a two-point lead with 7:23 left.

However, in the next five minutes, the Monarchs went on an 18-2 run to take a 37-23 lead after a pair of free throws from Meagan Boccio with 2:46 left. A pair of free throws from Antonelli, who finished the half with 10 points, made it a 12-point game, 44-32, at halftime.
