Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A late goal and a pair of chances put Lebanon Valley College on the ropes, but the Lycoming College women’s soccer team couldn’t complete the comeback, as the Dutchmen held on for a 2-1 win in Commonwealth Conference action on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 19, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
Senior Kati Shaner (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) got the Warriors (7-6-1 overall, 0-4-1 Commonwealth) on the board in the 79th minute by blasting a corner kick from the right corner towards the left side of the net. The goalie leaped to get it, but deflected it across the goalline, cutting Lycoming's deficit in half.
In the final 10 minutes, both teams opened up their offenses and got several chances but both goaltenders stood tall, with Lycoming’s Caitlin Dougherty (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) making an open field save on a breakaway. The Warriors got their best chance just as the clock ticked to 3:00 minutes, as a ball was serviced to the 12-yard line, but the resulting shot sailed high.
Lebanon Valley (9-5-2 overall, 2-1-1 Commonwealth) got on the board in the 22nd minute, as Katie Deardorff passed into a crowded goalie's box and Sara Drabenstadt connected with a shot high into the left corner to help get the Dutchmen on the board. The Dutchmen added another tally in the 48th minute when Nicole Snyder found the back of the net on a breakaway.
Dougherty made four saves in net for the Warriors on 12 shots from the Dutchmen. Sami Young stopped four shots for the Dutchmen on 11 Warriors’ shots.
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday when they head to Elizabethtown for a 4:30 p.m. Commonwealth Conference clash.
