WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Led by the second straight double-double from freshman Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West), who posted 38 assists and 11 digs, the Lycoming College volleyball team has a balanced attack of four players with at least eight kills to help the Warriors knock off Arcadia University, 3-0, in Commonwealth Conference action on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at Lamade Gymnasium.

McKillop also added a block and two kills in the match, while freshman Tanya DeWalt (Mainesburg, Pa./Mansfield) was McKillop’s favorite accomplice, as she finished with 10 kills, a .500 hitting percentage and two blocks. Freshman Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) posted nine kills, three blocks and an ace and senior Megan Schulze (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) added eight kills, eight digs, three blocks and an ace. Senior Kelly Rose (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Bishop Hoban) also added eight kills and two digs.

Defensively, the Warriors (12-11 overall, 1-5 Commonwealth) were led again by junior Emily Abel (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove), who posted 15 digs to become the first player in school history to cross 1,900 career digs. She now has 1,905. Freshman Kassidy Sedore (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) added eight digs, an ace and a kill.

After the Warriors took a 10-4 lead in the first set, the Knights went on an 11-4 run to take the lead before both teams struggled to take hold of the set, with neither team taking more than a three-point advantage. With the score tied at 23, however, Gear posted a monster kill near the center of the court to give the Warriors the lead and a Knights’ attack error ended the set.

The Warriors took an 8-4 lead in the second set after a kill from Schulze and expanded the lead to nine at 22-13 after a kill by DeWalt, as the team hit a solid .297 in the set, pounding down 16 kills to take the frame.

To wrap up the match, the Warriors and Knights engaged in another tight battle, with the Warriors taking an 8-4 lead before the Knights tied the match at 10. Neither team took more than a two-point advantage until a kill by Schulze and an attack error gave the Warriors a 21-18 lead. The Knights closed within a point, but kills by DeWalt and junior Heather Keller (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) helped give the Warriors the sweep.

Natasha Wetten and Hailey Barger posted six kills to lead the Knights (7-14 overall, 0-6 Commonwealth). Carlie Rossiter added 19 assists and two blocks and Christina DiMichele added 13 digs.

The Warriors get back on the court on Thursday, Oct. 21 when they head to Scranton for a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
