--- Behind 19 points from senior guard Eric Anthony, the Lycoming College men’s basketball team out-lasted a late charge from Albright College 74-69 on Saturday, Jan. 9. The Warriors extend their win streak to three, while also improving to 6-0 on the road this season.

Lycoming (11-2, 2-1 Commonwealth) never trailed in the game, building to a 7-0 in the first minute and a half of the game. But Albright (11-2, 2-1 Commonwealth) chipped away at the Lycoming lead, eventually tying the game at 11 apiece with 12:08 left in the first half.

After a layup from Jerald Williams (Riverdale, Md./Bladensburg) to give the Warriors a four-point, 15-11 lead, a pair of Lion free throws pulled Albright within two. Anthony (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Central Catholic) dropped in a three-pointer to put Lycoming up by eight with 7:03 remaining in the half. Another two points from Anthony increased Lycoming’s lead to 10.

With 4:38 remaining in the first half, the closest Albright got to the lead was 25-20 before Lycoming’s offense answered each of the Lions' scoring chances. The Warriors took a nine-point, 36-27 lead into the locker room at half.

The Lycoming shooters continued to play well, with James Oberlies (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep.) scoring a running layup in the first 20 seconds of the fresh half. After Albright cut the lead to nine, Anthony hit yet another three-pointer to give Lycoming a 41-29 lead.

Mike Bradley
But the Lions continued to battle, eventually pulling within three of the lead at 9:55. Three straight points from Mike Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep.) helped Lycoming regain a six-point lead.

Albright surged in the final minute of the game, but it proved to be too little, too late as the Warriors were able to stave off the charge. Free throw shooting was key to Lycoming’s final minute of play as both Anthony hit a pair of frees while Bradley knocked down five to seal the win.

Three Lycoming players reached double-digits in scoring, with Anthony leading the game with 19 points. Bradley recorded a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds, 12 of which were on defense. Williams hit the double-figure mark with 10 points. Oberlies tallied five steals and six points.

As a team, Lycoming shot 40 percent (24-60) from the floor. The Warriors’ defense was key to the game, recording nine steals and 36 defensive rebounds.

Lycoming returns to Williamsport for its next game as it hosts Commonwealth Conference opponent Messiah College on Wednesday, Jan. 13. The game is set to begin at 8 p.m. following the women’s game, also against Messiah.
