WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
Two last-minute blocks helped seal a 64-62 win for the Lycoming College women’s basketball team against visiting Albright College on Saturday, Jan. 30. The Lady Warriors finished the game with seven blocks.
Albright’s Rory Yerkes attemtped two potential game-tying shots in the last 10 seconds, only to be denied by two different Warriors.

Jessica Zerbee on the last attempt.
“It was a game of runs,” said Lycoming head coach Christen Ditzler. “Thankfully, we answered the 17-0 run they went on.”
Lycoming (6-13, 3-5) survived a big scare as the Lions went on the big run, taking a 55-50 advantage with 4:03 left in the game. The Lady Warriors responded with a 14-7 run of their own during the final 3:47 of the contest.
The first half was closely contested, with six lead changes and three ties. The teams went into halftime tied at 26-26. Spencer led the first 20 minutes in scoring with 10 points while also grabbing four boards. Zerbee chipped in five points and four rebounds, while also recording two assists and two blocks.
Albright (6-12, 2-6) was led by Jessica McGinness’ nine first half points. She also had two steals. Mallory Olsheski was the stanza’s leader in rebounds with five.
“Spencer’s play was critical today,” said Ditzler. “
Alicia Engler was huge off the bench for us, playing smart basketball on both ends of the court.”
In the second half, Engler was a huge asset off the bench, putting up 14 of Lycoming’s 21 bench points, shooting four-of seven from the floor. She also had three steals and a block. Spencer tallied another nine points, going a perfect four-for-four from the field.
Allison Mock put up eight second half points.
Four Lycoming players ended up with double-digit points. Spencer was the Lady Warriors’ leading scorer, putting up 19 points, shooting 90 percent (nine-of-10) from the floor. She also finished with five rebounds. Engler tallied 16 points off the bench.
McGinness was the Lions' leading scorer, putting up 22 points. Yerkes tallied 14 points and five assists. Both teams had 35 rebounds, but Albright controlled its offensive boards, getting 17 rebounds and scoring 12 second chance points.
“Luck was on our side at the end. Getting a hand on both her (Yerkes) shots was enormous,” said Ditzler. “Getting a win on military day was great too. We are extremely grateful for the efforts of our military personnel both here and abroad.”
Lycoming is on the road for its next game when it travels to Annville, Pa. for a Commonwealth match up with No. 23 Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, Feb. 3. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
