Warriors dominate cross-town opponent Penn College 113-89

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.
– The Lycoming College men’s basketball team dominated cross-town opponent the Pennsylvania College of Technology 113-89 on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Five different Warriors reached double-figures in the contest.

In the first half, Lycoming (16-2) exploded on a 25-9 run midway through the stanza. Two Warriors were in double figures in scoring, paced by Sebastian Sabella with 12 points. Eric Anthony put up 10 points, hitting three of his seven attempts. As a team, Lycoming dominated on the boards, outrebounding the Wildcats 34-11. The Warriors also forced Penn College into 12 first half turnovers. The Warriors held a 57-33 halftime lead. 

For the Wildcats (6-8), Leroy Joiner led the game with 29 points and finished the double-double with 11 rebounds. Greg Solyak put up 20 points while Noor Ford recorded 19 to go along with a team-high four steals.

In the second half, Will Kelly put up an efficient 12 points, knocking down three of his five attempts, including two-of-four from beyond the arc. He hit all four of his free throw attempts and grabbed five defensive rebounds. Jerald Williams handed out four second half assists.

“It was a fun game for the fans to watch,” said Lycoming head coach Guy Rancourt. “This cross-town rivalry is a great thing for the community and our colleges. Both teams played exceptionally hard.”

Kelly finished the game with a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. James Oberlies led the Warriors with four steals while Williams handed out 10 assists, his third straight game with nine or more. Anthony, Sabella and Ihsaan Davis all scored 16 points. Mike Bradley rounded out the double-figure Warriors with 12 points.

Lycoming controlled the rebounds throughout the game, finishign with a 59-31 advantage. Thirty-eight of Lycoming rebounds came on defense.

The Warriors took 89 shots in the contest, hitting 40 for a percentage of 44.9. The two teams combined for 55 fouls, sending Lycoming to the line 43 times.

The Warriors are at home for their next game on Saturday, Jan. 30 when they host Commonwealth Conference foe Albright College in a battle for sole possession of first place in the conference. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. in Lamade Gymnasium.
