Women's basketball suffers 79-59 loss to Alvernia

--- The Lycoming College women’s basketball team suffered a 79-59 Commonwealth Conference loss on the road to Alvernia University on Saturday, Jan 23. Senior guard Gina Manbeck led the Lady Warriors with 11 points.

In the first half, Lycoming (4-13, 2-5 Commonwealth) had seven different scorers, paced by Manbeck and Allison Mock with eight points each. Manbeck was three-for-six from the field, including two three-pointers. She also tallied five rebounds. Alvernia held a 34-28 lead at the half.

Opening the second half, Kaitlyn Ober had the hot hand for Lycoming, posting seven points in the period, going three-for-six from the floor. Freshman Rachael Scheller recorded four second-half points, hitting a jumper and going two-for-two from the charity stripe. Alvernia went on a four minute, 14-1 run through the middle of the second half to seal the victory.

Manbeck and Mock were the only two Warriors in double-figures, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively. Manbeck and freshman Leeann Randall paced Lycoming on the glass, each grabbing five rebounds. Ober concluded her day with nine points and two steals.

As a team, Lycoming struggled from the field, hitting just 32.1 percent (18-56) of its shot attempts. Rebounding was key in the game, as Alvernia outrebounded the Warriors 54-31. Lycoming forced Alvernia into 21 turnovers, 10 of which were on Warrior steals.

Lycoming is on the road for its next game, traveling to Wilkes University for a Middle Atlantic Conferences crossover game on Wednesday, Jan. 27. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
