Women's hoops defeated by Elizabethtown 64-53

. --- Despite three players in double-figures, the Lycoming College women’s basketball team lost to Commonwealth Conference foe Elizabethtown College 64-53 on Wednesday, Jan. 20. Junior forward Kaitlyn Ober went six-for-10 from the field, posting 14 points.

Lycoming (4-12, 2-4 Commonwealth) got off to a hot start against the Lady Blue Jays, scoring 26 points on 9-28 shooting in the first half. Leading the Lady Warriors at the break with eight points and four rebounds was Ober (Lititz, Pa./Warwick). Off the bench, freshman Rachael Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) contributed to the 26-17 halftime lead with five points and four rebounds.

The Lady Blue Jays (5-9, 2-4 Commonwealth) came out firing in the second half, going on a 13-2 run in the first five minutes to take their first lead of the half. With just over six minutes remaining in the contest, Elizabethtown extended its lead to five points. Lycoming was unable to stifle the Lady Blue Jay attack and was outscored by 20 points in the second half. Ober and senior guard Alicia Engler (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) finished with 14 points each to pace the Lady Warriors, while recording six and eight rebounds, respectively. Scheller finished with 10 points. Engler was the team leader in rebounds with eight while also handing out four assists.

Leading the charge for Elizabethtown were Megan Strohman and Kaity Snyder with 13 points each to go along with eight and six rebounds, respectively. The Lady Blue Jays hit 18 of their 19 free throw attempts.

As a team, Lycoming shot 33.3 percent from the floor, but picked up 14 second-chance points and another 17 from 21 Blue Jay turnovers. Thirty of Lycoming’s 53 points came from the bench.

The Lady Warriors will be on the road for their next conference game when they travel to Arcadia University on Saturday, Jan. 23. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
