Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Lycoming College volleyball team battled back in every game to take its second Commonwealth Conference victory 3-0 over visiting Albright College on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Lady Warriors utilized teamwork, tallying 34 assists on the night.
With the win, Lycoming improves to 5-7 overall and 2-0 in the Commonwealth, while Albright slips to 4-8 and 0-2 in the league.
In game one, the lady Warriors jumped out to a commanding 8-2 lead before the Lions called a timeout. After the break, Albright climbed back into the game, down just 12-10. Lycoming regained control of the match, going up 20-17. Albright clawed back into the match, but Lycoming took the first stanza 25-21.
The second match started out with Juniata grabbing an 8-6 lead before Lycoming rallied back and went up 11-9, forcing the Lions to take another time out. Lycoming continued to control the match, going up 18-12. Albright rattled off three straight points on Lycoming’s 24-21 game point before a Warrior timeout. After the break, Lycoming finished of the game 25-21.
Game three saw another tough battle between the teams, with Albright holding a slight 6-5 advantage. Heather Keller (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) evened the match with a solo block. The Lady Warriors found themselves down 14-10 before calling a timeout. Down five, Lycoming battled back to down only 22-20. The Warriors continued to battle back, going up 23-22 before the Lions took a time out before finishing the match 25-22.
Kelly Rose (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Bishop Hoban) led the day for Lycoming, scoring eight kills on 16 attempts. Handing out assists was Abby Myers (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) with 21. Capitalizing on several attacking errors, Lycoming only needed to come up with 31 digs, paced by Beth Machella (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) and Emily Abel with seven apiece. Abel (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) and Myers also tallied two service aces.
