WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team fell to Widener University 15-9 in the 2009 Middle Atlantic Conference semifinal. Ricky DeNenno and Ed Willams both had three goals on April, 29 in the loss.
Head coach Brian Anken and the Warriors wrap up their season with an 11-5 overall record and 9-1 in the MAC. Widener advances to the finals with a 10-8 overall mark.
The Warriors started the scoring, with Williams netting his first just one minute into the match, with the assist going to Brad Schaeffer. Dave Labagh put Lycoming up 2-0 just 37 seconds after the Williams tally. But the Pride put together an 11 goal run through the next two quarters. DeNenno broke the streak, scoring with 1:46 left in the half. Williams rounded out the first half scoring as the clock had 31 seconds remaining in the second quarter, with Lycoming down 11-4 at half.
Both teams traded goals in the third quarter, scoring just two apiece. Widener opened the fresh half, with Warrior Nate Walter finding net with 8:10. The Pride tallied a goal 30 seconds later, while DeNenno had his second goal with 3:47 in the third stanza.
Widener may have had the open goal of the fourth, but the Warriors showed life early, scoring three straight. Ethan Payne, DeNenno and Williams all scored, with the DeNenno goal assisted by JP Earp and the Williams tally from Schaeffer. Widener sealed the victory late in the fourth with an empty net goal.
