Softball falls on the road to Juniata

Kelly PrendergastHUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Lycoming College softball team fell in doubleheader action on Tuesday, March 31. The Warriors dropped the first game 7-0 and lost in the second frame 9-1. Manda Peck was the lone scoring Lycoming player.

The pair of defeats drop Lycoming to 8-14 overall while Juniata improves to 13-5.

Lycoming held Juniata to just two runs through the first four innings before the Eagle bats came alive and sparked a five-run fifth inning. Peck was the first Warrior on base in the top of the fourth, hitting a double and reaching third on a sacrifice bunt, but Lycoming could not convert the run. Rebecca Spencer gave Lycoming some life in the top of the fifth, hitting a double.

In game two, Chelsea Stein reached first on a walk in the top of the third, and Madalyn Smith got on base on a fielder’s choice. Starting the fifth inning, Spencer made it to third on a single by Courtney Black and Marissa Hastings. Opening the sixth and final frame of the day, Peck dropped the ball over the first baseman’s head to reach first and got to second on a Shauna Starr single before reaching home on a Jessica Nabholz sacrifice fly.

The Lady Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, April 4 for a Commonwealth Conference match up on the road against Messiah. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m
