Stifiling defense, potent offense lead Laxers 11-1 over King’s

Dave LabaghWILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- Combining strong defense and potent offense, the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team overpowered the King’s College Monarchs by a score of 11-1 on Wednesday, March 25 in an under-the-lights conference game.

With the win, Lycoming improves to 4-4 on the year and 2-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference while King’s slips to a 1-5 record and 0-3 in the MAC.

Warrior Andrew Stoner netted himself a natural hat trick to start the game, scoring the only three goals of the first half. His first goal was assisted by Dave Labagh. Labagh gave Lycoming a 4-0 advantage at the start of the second quarter, followed by a goal from both Shea Conway and Ricky DeNenno to go up 6-0. DeNenno assisted on the Conway goal, sending the teams into half time with a Warrior advantage 6-0.

Ricky DeNennoOpening the second half, Ed Williams put up two goals, assisted by DeNenno on the second, putting Lycoming up 8-0. Conway found the back of the goal in the third, as did Stoner twice, again assisted by Labagh on the first and Nate Walter on the second. King’s scored midway through the fourth to cut the Warrior lead 11-1 and the only goal of the quarter.

In the cage, Kyle Gilfoy made 11 saves and picked up one groundball. Mike Doherty and Dan Conkright both had five groundballs, as the Warriors hovered 33. Doherty also went 6-of-10 on the face offs. Stoner finished the game with five goals while Williams and Conway had two apiece.

Lycoming will be on the road again Saturday, March 28 when they travel to face conference new-comer Eastern University. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
