WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Lycoming College women’s softball team and first year head coach Dan Lazorka picked up their first home victories over Penn State-Harrisburg on Monday, March 16. The Lady Warriors defeated PSU-Harrisburg 2-1 in the first game and 7-2 in the second.
In the first game, the Lady Warriors were able to defeat the Lady Lions 2-1. Jessica Nabholz was credited with the win as she picked up nine strike outs. She was working a perfect game until the top of the fifth. Lycoming picked up nine hits, including two from Mandy Peck and Marissa Hastings. Rebecca Spencer and Shauna Starr were the two scorers for the Warriors. Spencer reached on a fielder’s choice and was driven in by Madalyn Smith. Starr reached on a two-bagger and reached home on a Nabholz double.
Leading off in the second game, Peck reached second before being driven home by Carey. The Warrior bats exploded in the fifth inning, driving in five runs. Peck scored again, as did Carey and Nabholz. Juliet Kaletja came in at second as a pinch runner for Chelsea Apker and was driven in by Spencer. Shauna Starr earned the victory, pitching seven innings and forcing 13 groundouts.
The Lady Warriors will be on the diamond Thursday, March 19 when they head to Edwardsville, Pa. to face cross-conference foe Wilkes University. The first pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
