WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team fell 10-8 in its Middle Atlantic Conference opener to FDU-Florham on Saturday, March 14. The Warriors’ Nate Walter led Lycoming on offense, putting up two goals and one assist.
The loss drops Lycoming to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the MAC while the Devils improve to 3-3 and 1-0.
The conference opener was a game of runs, as both teams were able to put together several back-to-back goals. FDU scored the first, third and fourth goals of the game, with Kevin Shadiack picking up all three. Lycoming closed out the quarter on a three goal run from three different Warriors with Walter, Andrew Stoner and Brad Schaeffer. Walter assisted on Schaeffers goal.
The second quarter was run by the Devils, with Shadiack scoring his fourth, Will Stark scoring back to back and Peter Fleming also finding net to send the game into halftime 7-4 in favor of FDU.
At the start of the third, the game took a more settled approach, going scoreless until 9:03 as Shadiack tallied his fifth goal. Lycoming answered with 2:36 remaining in the quarter as Schaeffer scored his second, assisted by Shea Conway.
Ed Williams started the final 15 minutes with a goal just 17 seconds into the period to pull within two, 8-6 FDU. Stoner and Walter pulled the Warriors closer, as they found the back of net and claw back 9-8. But Shadiack would put the game out of reach on an empty net goal with five seconds left on the clock, giving FDU the 10-8 victory.
On defense, Kevin Moris and Dan Conkright combined for six second half caused turnovers, each player creating three. At the faceoff square, Tim Clemente and Mike Doherty went 16-of-26, with Clemente picking up a team-high six ground balls.
The Lycoming lacrosse squad looks to defend its Rumble on the River title, Wednesday, March 18 as it hosts Susquehanna University in a 4 p.m. start.
