WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Lycoming College men’s basketball team posted a season-high in points with a 92-66 win over Juniata College on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Three Warriors reached double-figures in scoring during the first half of the contest.
The win improves Lycoming to 7-1 overall while Juniata falls to 5-4 on the season. The game was the first time Lycoming and Juniata have faced each other since Jan. 6, 2000. The Warriors won that contest 81-70.
After Juniata tied the game for the third time, 6-6, the Warriors high-powered offense, which averages 84.5 points per game, took over and never looked back. Sophomore center Mike Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep.) scored the go-ahead points on a layup, putting the Warriors ahead 8-6.
With 11:32 left in the first half, freshman Jerald Williams (Riverdale, Md./Bladensburg) sparked a 31-8 run for Lycoming over a nine minute period. Following Williams’ bucket, fellow freshman Ihsaan Davis (Jamica, N.Y./Christ the King Regional) canned a three-pointer, assisted by Johnathan Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Rice). Will Kelly hit a pair of free throws to give Lycoming a 21-9 advantage.
Senior guard Eric Anthony (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Central Catholic) was a key component to the run, scoring 12 of his 21 points over the span of the scoring. Anthony, the Commonwealth Conference’s top free throw shooter, capped the run after being fouled while attempting a three-pointer, send him to the charity stripe where he converted all three of his attempts, giving the Warriors a 45-17 lead.
James Oberlies (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep.) wrapped up the first half, knocking down a jumper with two seconds left on the clock to send the Warriors into the locker room with a 47-22 lead. Anthony accounted for 12 points in the first half, With Davis and Kelly (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) each chipping in 11.
The Warriors potent offense continued in the second half, with Bradley scoring a layup in the first 25 seconds of action, followed by an Anthony fast break layup on a Jerald Williams steal. Lycoming scored 32 of its points on Juniata’s 25 turnovers.
A pair of free throws from Davis put Lycoming up 31, the biggest lead of the game, 74-43 with 9:48 left in the second half. Throughout the rest of the game, Lycoming’s lead fell below 25 just once, 89-65, at the 1:18 mark after an Eagle guard hit a jump shot.
Ethan Lee (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) scored the final Warrior bucket of the evening, hitting a deep three-pointer with Jerald Williams on the assist.
Four Warriors reached double-figures in scoring, paced by Anthony’s 21 points. He also handed out four assists. Davis finished the evening with 20 points after going six of eight from the floor, hitting four of his six three-point attempts, and a perfect four-for-four from the free throw line. Kelly and Bradley posted 14 and 10 points, respectively, with Kelly leading the team on rebounds with 10. Jerald Williams dished out 11 assists, while also grabbing five rebounds.
As a team, Lycoming shot 47.9 percent from the field, including going 17-of-33 (51.5 percent) in the second half. The Warriors shot 55.0 percent from beyond the arc, and a season-high 81.3 percent from the free throw line.
Lycoming hosts Wilkes University in its next game, the second of a three-game home stand, on Saturday, Dec. 12. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
