Flick breaks two school records, Lady Warriors finish third

SWARTHMORE, Pa. --- Junior Stacy Flick broke two schools records and earned a national "B" cut to help the Lycoming College women’s swim team to a third-place finish at the Swarthmore Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 5.

The Lady Warriors earned 515 points, while host Swarthmore University scored 572 and Division I Drexel University took first with 879.

Flick (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:06.45, breaking her own school record of 1:07.28, and earning a national "B" cut, which qualifies her for the national meet. She then broke the school record in the 200-yard breaststroke, taking first in a time of 2:27.66. The previous record, 2:28.55, was held by Ruth Sykes, set in 1997.

Freshman Hope Weber (Millersville, Pa./Millersville) dominated in the 400-yard individual medley, picking up another 20 points for Lycoming after winning the event in 4:57.46, a full nine seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Claire Zido (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) took third in the race, picking up 16 team points with a time of 5:09.82.

In the 100-yard butterfly, freshman Lindsey Hunsicker (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) stopped the clock in 1:01.97 for a second-place finish and 17 team points. She missed breaking the school record by less than a second. Fellow freshman Elisa Becker (Reston, Va./South Lakes) took sixth in the event, touching the wall in 1:03.99.

Swimming
Senior Caroline LeHota (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) took sixth place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.25. She also took seventh place in the 200-yard backstroke, completing the lengths in 2:25.03.

The Lady Warriors enjoyed a group of swimmers picking up a combined 42 team points, with Weber, Becker and Hunsicker finishing fourth, fifth and sixth places, respectively. Weber stopped the clock in 2:21.97, Becker in 2:22.51 and Hunsicker with a time of 2:23.05.

The group of Flick, Becker, Randi Bosch and Hunsicker took third place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:50.13, two seconds faster than its seed time. Bosch (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) had one of the fastest swims in the group, finishing her portion in 57.28.

In the 200-yard medley relay, LeHota, Flick, Breck and Bosch took second-place, finishing less than two seconds behind Division I Drexel. The group finished in 1:54.58.

In the final event of the Invitational, Zido finished the 1,650-yard freestyle race in 19:53, followed by Lindsay Stern (Lawrenceville, Pa./Lawrenceville) in seventh place with a time of 20:59.72.

Lycoming returns to the pool on Saturday, Dec. 12 when it travels to Messiah College for a Middle Atlantic Conference meet. The first event is set for 1 p.m.
