Women's basketball falls in overtime heartbreaker

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.
--- The Lycoming College Lady Warriors fell to the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen 86-80 in an overtime heartbreaker on Wednesday, Dec. 2.
 
Lycoming slips to 1-5 overall on the year and 0-1 in the Commonwealth Conference while Lebanon Valley improves to 5-0 and 1-0 in the league.
 
Down three with 6:27 left in the second half, Jessica Zerbee (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) tied the action at 59-59 with a deep three-pointer, assisted by Allison Mock (State College, Pa./State College). Lycoming built a four-point lead before Lebanon Valley tied the game for a sixth time, 63-63.
 
In the waining moments of regulation, the Dutchmen hit a pair of free throws to knot the game for an eighth time at 69-69. Kaitlyn Ober (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) hit a free throw to give Lycoming a narrow one-point lead, 70-69.
 
Lebanon Valley hit a three-pointer to go up two at with just 10 seconds on the clock, but Engler and Leid combined for the tying layup on an inbounds play to force extra time.

With 2.8 seconds left in regulation, Alicia Engler found Rebecca Leid under the basket as Leid scored the game-tying layup to send the game into overtime.
 
The Dutchmen started the overtime period strong, building a five-point lead but Engler scored a running layup to cut the margin to three.
 
On the ensuing Lebanon Valley possession, Leid  (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) came up with a huge block with Engler (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) grabbing the defensive rebound. Zerbee was fouled and hit one of two free throws to get Lycoming back to within two.
 
But several two-point Dutchmen possessions sealed the defeat for Lycoming.
 
Leid tied for a game-high 21 points while also grabbing nine rebounds. Mock finished the game with nine points and nine rebounds. Zerbee recorded 13 points and six assists while Engler posted 12 points and five defensive rebounds. Ober scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds.
 
Lycoming is on the road for its next game, traveling to Chester, Pa. to face Commonwealth foe Widener University on Saturday, Dec. 5. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
