Lady Warrior swimming sweeps past Messiah 162-72

GRANTHAM, Pa.
--- The Lycoming College women’s swim team took first place in every event as it defeated Middle Atlantic Conference opponent Messiah College 162-72 on Saturday, Dec. 12. The Lady Warriors also swept the top three places in four races.
 
The win improves Lycoming to 3-3 on the season and 3-1 in the MAC while Messiah slides to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
 
To open the day, the 200-yard medley relay “B” team of Caitlin DeAngelo, Stacy Flick, Hope Weber and Caroline LeHota (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) took first, stopping the clock in 2:00.09, narrowly beating out the “A” team of Meg Emery, Emilie Norton (Winthrop, N.Y./St. Laurence Central), Lindsey Hunsicker and Randi Bosch (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), which finished in 2:01.65.
 
Hunsicker (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:17.95, followed by Lindsay Stern (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrenceville) in third with a time of 13:00.63. In the next event, the 200-yard freestyle, Emery, Tudgay (Swoyersville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), and Weber swept the event, with Emery (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock Secondary) touching in 2:07.69, Tudgay in 2:10.06 and Weber in 2:11.32.

LeHota was the first to the wall in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 1:07.84, with DeAngelo (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) in third with a time of 1:08.95. Flick (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) cruised to a first place in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:10.09, over six seconds ahead of second place.
 
Hunsicker continued the Warriors’ dominance in the pool, grabbing the top-spot in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:25.01, followed Elisa Becker (Reston, Va./South Lakes) in second place, stopping the clock in 2:28.52.
 
In the 50-yard freestyle, Lycoming completed its second sweep of the day, going one-two-three, with Flick setting the pace at 26.58, followed by Bosch at 26.59 and Kara McGonnell (Olean, N.Y./Olean) in 28.00. Bosch also snagged a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 59.08.
 
The Warriors earned their third sweep of the meet in the 200-yard backstroke. Weber (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) took first with a time of 2:24.08, followed by Emery in second with a time of 2:29.92 and Stern with a third place in a time of 2:39.92.
 
In the final scoring event for the Warriors, the 500-yard freestyle, Emery, Tudgay and DeAngelo took first, second and third, respectively, with Emery in a time of 5:41.06, Tudgay in 5:57.78 and DeAngelo in 6:00.00
 
Lycoming is idle until the hosts Lebanon Valley College at noon on Saturday, Jan. 16.
