Women's hoops falls 67-56 to Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa
. --- Senior guard Jessica Zerbee led the Lycoming College women’s basketball team with 16 points, but the Lady Warriors fell to Delaware Valley College 67-56 on Sunday, Nov. 29. Zerbee also recorded five rebounds.
 
The loss drops Lycoming to 1-4 on the season, while Delaware Valley improves to 3-2 on the year.
 
At the 16:15 mark, both teams traded the lead, with Lycoming freshman Leeann Randall (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) giving the Warriors a narrow 5-4 advantage. The Aggies hit the front-end of two free throws to tie the game at five before Erin Connaghan converted a pair of free throws to give Lycoming a 7-5 lead.
 
Connaghan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) boosted the Warrior lead to four after rolling in a layup with a Rebecca Spencer (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) assist at 13:36, putting Lycoming up 9-5.
 
Delaware Valley scored a layup to cut the lead to two, but Becky Leid (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) hit a pair of free throws to regain the four-point advantage.
 
The Aggies tied the action at 11 apiece with a three-pointer and took the lead back from the Warriors at 6:04 with another deep three. Zerbee (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) hit a jumper to get Lycoming back to within one, 16-15.
 
But foul trouble for the Lady Warriors late in the half and Delaware Valley hitting its free throws sent Lycoming to the locker room down 27-20.

The Lady Warriors clawed their way back into the game, cutting the Aggie lead to three on a Leid free throw. After Del-Val rebuilt an eight-point advantage, Zerbee knocked down a three-pointer to pull Lycoming to within five, 44-39 at 8:57 of the second half.
 
Delaware Valley’s offense proved too much for Lycoming, eventually building to a 14-point lead and the 67-56 win.
 
Zerbee’s 16 points were a game second-high while also contributing five assists. Randall and Alicia Engler (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) each chipped in seven points, with Randall also grabbing four rebounds.
 
Freshman Rachel Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) led in rebounding for Lycoming with seven, four of which came on defense.
 
Lycoming and head coach Christen Ditzler return home on Wednesday, Dec. 2 for their Commonwealth Conference opener against Lebanon Valley College. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in Lamade Gymnasium.
