Women's basketball succumbs to late Misericordia sure 63-52

--- The Lycoming College women’s basketball team was the victim of a 15-4 run in the final three minutes of a 63-52 loss to Misericordia University on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Freshman Rachel Scheller and junior Kaitlyn Ober each scored in double-digits.
 
The Lady Warriors slip to 1-3 on the season, while Misericordia improves to 2-2 overall.
 
Lycoming opened the game with a 6-1 lead, picking up baskets from Allison Mock, Jessica Zerbee andRebecca Leid. Mock (State College, Pa./State College) contributed an assist on Leid’s layup.
 
At the 14:46 mark, the Cougars tied the game at six apiece, the first of two ties and three lead changes in the contest. With the score at 9-8, Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) hit a three-pointer to give the Warriors an 11-8 lead.
 
Rebecca Spencer (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy)sank a pair of free throws to further Lycoming’s lead to 14-11 before the Cougars clawed their way back, down 14-13. Ober (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) scored on an offensive rebound to increase the gap to a 16-14 Warrior advantage.
 
With 6:40 remaining in the first half, Leeann Randall (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) hit a shot from beyond the arc to put Lycoming up five, with Zerbee (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) on the assist. Randall had a hand in the Warriors taking a seven-point lead as she set up Leid (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) for a layup.
 
Misericordia narrowed the lead to two with 2:57 left in the half, but the Lady Warriors rallied in the final two minutes of the period, sparking the run on a three-point basket from Randall. Scheller hit the back end of a pair of free throws.
 
Allison Mock
Erin Connaghan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) hit the final field goal of the half on a Scheller assist, sending Lycoming to the locker room with a 32-22 lead.
 
Opening the second half, both teams traded two-pointers before Zerbee stepped back and hit a deep three, with Randall getting the assist.
 
Throughout the second stanza, Misericordia slowly chipped away at Lycoming’s lead, getting to within two following a three-pointer with 8:07 left in the game.
 
Alicia Engler (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) rebuilt the Warrior lead to seven after knocking down a three-pointer.
 
With 3:10 left, the score was tied at 48 apiece after Misericordia converted a layup. The Cougars scored 15 points in the final 2:13 of the game to seal the win 63-52.
 
Scheller led Lycoming in scoring, posting 12 points while grabbing two rebounds. Ober recorded 11 points and a team-high six rebounds. Zerbee handed out three assists and tallied two blocks.
 
Lycoming is idle until Sunday, Nov. 29 when it heads to Doylestown, Pa. for another cross-Middle Atlantic Conference match-up with Delaware Valley College. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
