Women's hoops drops 72-54 decision to Juniata

CENTER VALLEY, Pa.
--- In the consolation game of the 2009 DeSales University tournament, the Lycoming College women's basketball team dropped a 72-54 decision to Juniata College on Sunday, Nov. 22.

Lycoming is now 1-2 on the season and Juniata improves to 2-1.

Alicia Engler (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) got the scoring started with a layup on a pass from Jessica Zerbee (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg), giving Lycoming a 2-0 lead. Zerbee boosted the Warriors up 4-0 with a layup at 17:57.
 
Juniata narrowed the gap 4-3 after hitting a three-pointer. Zerbee countered two minutes later with a three-pointer of her own, giving Lycoming a 7-3 advantage.
 
The Eagles went up by one after another three-pointer, giving Juniata a slight 8-7 lead. Juniata worked up to an eight-point lead before the Warriors’ Allison Mock (State College, Pa./State College) cut the Eagles’ lead to five, 19-14.
 
Juniata continued its high-powered offense, eventually getting to an 11-point lead just before halftime, 31-20.
 
Rebecca Leid (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) cut the lead to nine in the opening moments of the second half with a layup. At the 16:43 mark, Leid again closed the gap to 33-25 with a pair of free throws. Midway through the second half, Juniata’s offense proved to be too much for Lycoming, building to a 24-point lead.

The Lady Warriors were led by three nine-point scorers in Zerbee, Kaitlyn Ober and Rachel Scheller. Engler led the rebounding effort with six. Zerbee finished the day with a team-high three assists. Freshman Leeann Randall (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) came up with three steals in the game.

Lycoming returns to the court Tuesday, Nov. 24 when it heads to Dallas, Pa., for a Middle Atlantic Conferences cross over game with Misericordia University. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
