Warriors win Tip-off Tournament 79-50 over Staten Island

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.
--- The Lycoming College men’s basketball team defeated the College of Staten Island 79-50 en route to winning the 2009 Lycoming College Tip-off Tournament, the first time the Warriors have won the tournament since the 2003-04 season.
 
Lycoming remains unbeaten at 4-0 while the Dolphins slip to 1-1 on the year.
 
After Mike Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep.) scored the opening bucket with a layup, the Warriors never looked back, holding the lead through the entire game. Will Kelly (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) hit a pair of free-throws to increase the Lycoming lead to 4-0.
 
Jerald Williams gave the Warriors a 13-point lead mid-way through the first half after scoring a fast-break layup. After the Dolphins cut the lead to 10, James Oberlies (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep.) tallied a deep three-pointer to give Lycoming a 30-17 lead to end the half.

Opening the second half, Kelly added to the lead, putting Lycoming up 16 after hitting a three-pointer. He tacked on a layup to further increase the lead to 18. After scoring a running layup, Eric Anthony (Wheeling W.Va./Wheeling Central Catholic) increased the margin to 19, 41-22.
 
In the final moments of the game, Brandon McFarland (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) gave Lycoming its biggest lead of the game with a transitional jumper.
 
Anthony led Lycoming in scoring with 12 points. He was also a perfect four-for-four from the free throw line. Kelly finished the day with 10 points and five rebounds, while Oberlies and Bradley both had seven rebounds. Bradley finished the game with eight points.
 
The Warriors capitalized on 23 Staten Island turnovers, as well as coming up with 15 steals. Freshman Jerald Williams (Riverdale, Md./Bladensburg) had five steals in the game, while Johnathan Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Rice) chipped in four steals. Bench players were key for Lycoming, with 38 of its points coming from substitutes.
 
Jerald Williams and Bradley were named to the all-tournament team. Bradley was also named as the tournament’s most valuable player after scoring 22 in the first game against Franciscan University.
