WILLIAMSPORT, Pa
. --- After honoring 15 seniors, the Lycoming College football team capped its season with a 28-21 victory over FDU-Florham on Saturday, Nov. 14. Senior Mark Rosa ran into the end zone for two touchdowns.

The win improves Lycoming to 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the Middle Atlantic Conference while FDU-Florham finishes 2-8 on the season and 1-6 in the league.

FDU found the scoreboard first, utilizing several long passes from quarterback Matt Jeffers, including a 14-yard connection to Lou Pietrangelo. The Devils scored on a 10-yard pass from Jeffers to Bayshawn Wells, going up 7-0.

Lycoming’s Parker Showers (Aspers, Pa./Biglerville) continued to show why the Warriors have the best kickoff return in the conference, returning the kickoff 61 yards to the Devils’ 16 yard line. After three plays, the Warriors failed to convert a 35-yard field goal attempt.

Nearing the end of the first quarter, Colin Dwyer and Josh Dixon (Fleetville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) hooked up for an 11-yard gain, followed two plays later by a Josh Kleinfelter (Belwood, Pa./Belwood-Antis) run for 11 more yards before Lycoming was stopped and forced to punt the ball away.

Chuck Bellitto
The Warriors picked up its first passing touchdown of the day as Dwyer hit Ryan Wagaman (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) with a 29-yard strike followed by a Brady Sandercock (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) PAT, knotting the score at seven apiece.

Cornerback Ray Bierbach (Hunlock Creek, Pa./Northwest Area) sparked another Warrior touchdown in the second quarter after picking off Jeffers and returning the interception for 33 yards to the FDU 39 yard line.

After Sean Saylor (Morton, Pa./Springfield) picked up a receiving first down on a 14-yard pass from Dwyer, Rosa (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) crashed into the endzone for a five-yard touchdown run, putting Lycoming up 14-7. The Warriors never looked back, taking the lead into halftime.

The third quarter was relatively quiet on offense. The Devils had their longest drive of the second half, going 54-yards. On a field goal attempt, the Warriors special teams nearly blocked the kick, putting enough pressure on the Devils’ kicker to force the ball left of the uprights.

FDU tied the game at 14 following two big catches by its receiving core. Jeffers completed two passes to Andrew Scamporino, the first for a 27-yard gain and the second for a 17-yard touchdown.

Lycoming’s next two possessions accounted for nearly a quarter of the game, taking 13:19 off the clock. On the first of the two possessions, Lycoming drove the field for 55 yards on 11 plays for a three yard touchdown pass from Dwyer to Dixon, putting the Warriors up 21-14.

Josh Kleinfelter
After getting the ball back with 10:42 on the clock, Lycoming drove 77 yards while chewing up 8:02. On the drive, Lycoming opted to take the air out of the ball, rushing on 12 straight plays, alternating between Rosa and Kleinfelter. Rosa broke for a 14-yard run, the longest of the drive and scored the final touchdown of his career on a two yard run to cap his 67-yard, two-touchdown day.

FDU found the end zone one last time after going 52 yards on 10 plays. Jeffers hit Scamporino with a four yard touchdown pass.

Dwyer ended the day with nine completions on 17 attempts and two touchdowns, picking up 133 yards and was sacked only once. Kleinfelter’s 133 yards were the most a Lycoming back has picked up since he rushed for 175 in week two versus Susquehanna.

Four different receivers caught passes from Dwyer, with Dixon grabbing two for 25 yards and a TD, as Wagaman and Kleinfelter each caught two passes. Wagaman finished the day with 43 yards and a touchdown while Kleinfelter caught for 32 yards. Saylor pulled in one catch for 14 yards.

On defense, Chris Kish (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) had a breakout day, making seven tackles, with four solo. Chuck Bellitto (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) also had seven stops and one interception. Senior Ted Geurds (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) capped an excellent career with 1.5 sacks for a loss of 17 yards, including 15 in one sack.
