Saturday’s game will also be the Rennie Rodarmel All-State Insurance Game of the Week, and will air on Cable Sports Production’s Comcast channel 70 on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. The game will be anchored by Gary Chrisman and Babe Mayer.
Meet the Coaches
Mike Clark is in his second season as Lycoming’s head football coach. His career record stands at 10-7 overall and 7-3 in the MAC. During his rookie campaign, he led the Warriors to a 7-4 overall record, 5-2 mark in the Middle Atlantic Conference and a berth in the 2008 NCAA Division III playoffs. He also led Lycoming to a share of the 2008 conference title. He is a 1993 graduate of Lycoming, where he played and coached under former coach Frank Girardi.
The Aggies head coach Jim Clements is on the sidelines for his fourth season at Delaware Valley. He has an overall career record of 26-12. Last season, Clements guided the squad to the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Bowl victory 16-7 over Kean University.
The two teams will be meeting for the 47th time on Saturday, with Lycoming holding a distinct 30-15-1 advantage over the visitors.
Last season’s 10-7 Warrior victory was the first win since the 2002 season over Delaware Valley, snapping a five-game skid for Lycoming.
Defense was the name of the game in the 2008 edition of the game, with only one touchdown scored for both teams and a field goal for the Warriors to seal the win. Entering that game, Delaware Valley was ranked 22nd, and is currently 23rd, according to d3football.com
Home Sweet Home
The Warriors return to David Person Field after one game away. Today’s game is just the third at home for Lycoming this season, and the first of a two-game home stand against Delaware Valley and Wilkes University, next weekend on Oct. 31.
Senior tight end Adam Paulhamus was named as the Middle Atlantic Conference’s offensive player of the week following the 28-16 win over Widener University.
Lycoming got on the board early as Paulhamus scored two touchdowns in the first quarter of the game. He picked up 120 receiving yards as the Warriors gained 286 yards in the air. Paulhamus’ first touchdown was a 67 yard strike and the second score was on a 21 yard pass. He averaged 40 yards a catch on three receptions.
Lycoming’s Last Game
Lycoming picked up its second MAC win last week 28-16 over Widener. The Warriors scored three touchdowns in the first quarter to jump out to a 21-0 lead. Widener battled back, but the Lycoming defense came up with several late interceptions and the offense was too strong.
Senior quarterback Colin Dwyer guided the offense to pick up 379 yards, 286 of which were in the air. Dwyer completed 19 of his 31 pass attempts, averaging 9.2 per catch. In the running game, junior Josh Kleinfelter put in a blue-collared effort, rushing for 81 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries.
Defensively, Lycoming had Widener’s freshman quarterback’s number, with three different Warriors grabbing interceptions. Junior linebacker Joe Thompson had one pick, while Jim Daley and Ray Bierbach each had one, with Daley returning his for 30 yards and Bierbach for 50. Daley also broke up one pass.
The Warriors are 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. Lycoming has scored 14 touchdowns this season, five on the ground, five in the air and
As a team, Lycoming averages 22.0 points per game. The Warriors are one of the top kickoff return teams in the conference, gaining 637 return yards on 29 kicks, averaging a MAC second-best 22.0 yards per return. Freshman Dre Purdy is responsible for 319 of those return yards on 12 run backs.
In the last game, Dwyer eclipsed the 1,000 passing yardage mark, bringing his season total to 1,074. He has completed 100 of his 186 pass attempts, including eight touchdown throws. His receiving core is averaging 10.7 yards per catch. On the ground, Kleinfelter has picked up 488 of Lycoming’s 586 rushing yards, averaging 4.1 yards per carry on his 120 attempts. He is second in the MAC in rushing touchdowns with four.
On the defensive side of the ball, Anthony Marascio is fourth in the league in tackles for a loss with nine, averaging 1.5 per game. He is the conference leader in forced fumbles with two. Chuck Bellitto is the team leader in tackles, making 47 stops, 31 of which are solo. He has recorded 2.5 tackles for a loss and has three interceptions this season, as do Daley and Bierbach.
A Brief on Delaware Valley
The Aggies come to Williamsport ranked 23rd in the country, according to d3football.com. They have an overall record of 4-1 and 3-0 in the MAC.
Quarterback Mike Isgro is a dual-threat, passing for 1,094 yards and nine touchdowns, while also playing as the team’s second leading rusher with 195 yards gained. He has completed 61.0 percent (86-141) and thrown just four interceptions, averaging 182.3 yards per game.
Isgro’s favorite target this season has been Chad Peterman, who has caught 21 passes for 255 yards, averaging 42.5 yards a game. Brandon Fox is the Aggies big play maker, catching eight passes for 250 yards, averaging 31.2 yards a catch.
On the ground, Matt Cook is the top runner, rushing for 677 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 112.8 yards a game. An elusive back, he has lost just nine yards this season.
On defense, Kyle Gesswein is the top tackler with 53 stops, 33 solo and 20 assisted. He also has five sacks for a total loss of 30 yards. Gesswein has caused and recovered one fumble. Rob Eagles is a ball hawk in the secondary, coming up with three interceptions and returning them for 26 yards.
