WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Andrea Cooper scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures as Lycoming College advanced to the championship game of the Hoops for Hounds Holiday Basketball Classic with an 80-57 win over John Jay College on Friday night, Jan. 2, at Lamade Gymnasium.
Kaitlyn Ober (Lititz, Pa.) scored 16 points, Allison Mock (State College, Pa.) had 12 points and seven assists and Jessica Nabholz (Cressona, Pa.) had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Warriors, who improve to 7-1 and continue the team’s best start since the 1996-97 season.
Cooper (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) also had three blocks for Lycoming, giving her 102 for her career, second in school history.
Lycoming led just 31-27 at halftime but extended the lead to 19 points seven minutes into the second period. The Lady Warriors shot 57.9 percent from the field in the second half and scored 49 points to pull away.
Adetinuke Ogunleye (18 points, 16 rebounds) and Parker Griffin (18 points, 11 rebounds) both had double-doubles for John Jay, but the Bloodhounds shot 30.5 percent and committed 31 turnovers in the game.
Lycoming will play FDU-Florham in the championship game on Saturday, Jan. 3, at 3 p.m. The Devils defeated the Albany College of Pharmacy, 62-48, in the second game of the classic on Friday night. John Jay and ACP will play in a consolation game at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
