WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team used a 40-point performance from its bench players to upend Shenandoah (Va.), 77-52, on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Lamade Gymnasium.
In a physical game with 50 total fouls and 20 turnovers for each team, there was only one major statistical difference that set the teams apart.
Lycoming’s bench contributed 40 points, while the Hornets’ reserve players registered just 16.
Leading the way for the Warrior reserves was Mike Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa.) with 10 points and four rebounds. Sebastian Sabella (Bayside, N.Y.) added seven points and four rebounds. Brandon Wilkinson (Piscataway, N.J) had five points and Austin Smith (Lansdowne, Pa.) and John Caggiano (Mt. Arlington, N.J.) each added four points.
Prior to the game, senior Greg Sye (Chantilly, Va.) was presented with the game ball from Lycoming’s last game, a win against Elmira, in which he scored his 1,000th career point. Sye continued to impress, leading the Warriors for the fourth-straight game. He finished with 17 points and five rebounds in 18 minutes of play.
Also in double figures for the Warriors was Eric Anthony (Wheeling, W.V) with 11 points.
In total, 14 different players contributed to the scoring effort for the Warriors.
Lycoming never trailed in the game and led by 18 points at the intermission. The closest the Hornets would come in the second half was 13 points, but the Warriors increased the lead back to its largest of the game, ending with a 25 point win.
Lycoming shot 49.0 percent (24-49) from the field and just 25.0 percent (4-of-16) from behind the 3-point line. Shenandoah shot 42.9 percent (18-42) from the field and 0.0 (0-10) percent from 3-point land. The Warriors held a 43-22 advantage in rebounds.
With the win, Lycoming improves to 5-2. Shenandoah drops to 3-5.
The Warriors will be off for final examinations this week, and will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 14, at Susquehanna. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
