BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Lycoming College wrestling team dropped a 24-15 decision against No. 26 SUNY Brockport on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Brockport entered Wednesday’s match ranked 26th in the latest Adidas/Brute Coaches Poll and each of the two team’s featured a wrestler ranked in the top-five in his respective weight class.
Lycoming’s Chris Dahlheimer (Felton, Pa.) entered the match ranked fifth in the nation at 165 pounds. He remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 8-0 with a pin (4:06) in his match.
Brockport’s Eric Van Patten entered the match ranked fourth at 174 pounds. He earned a major victory (21-4) in his match.
Brockport opened the match with wins at 125 and 133 to take a 9-0 early lead.
Lycoming rebounded with an 11-8 decision at 141 with Thomas Barger (Clearfield, Pa.) putting the Warriors on the scoreboard. Consecutive decisions at 149 and 157 by Michael Maurer (Towanda, Pa.) and Zach Frederick (West Chester, Pa.) tied the score at 9-9. Maurer won a 9-6 victory and Frederick posted a 6-2 victory.
Lycoming took its first lead of the night with Dahlheimer’s pin, putting the Warriors up 15-9 after the 165-pound match.
Brockport recovered to post victories in the final four matches to register the comeback victory.
With the loss, Lycoming drops to 5-3 on the season. Brockport improves to 1-0.
The Warriors will travel to the Ohio Northern Tournament on Dec. 13.
