SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team dropped a 63-55 decision on the road at Susquehanna on Sunday, Dec. 14. The Warriors shot a season-low 29.8 percent from the field in the loss.
The game saw three ties during the first 16 minutes, but Lycoming did not trail in the game until 3:27 left in the first half when Susquehanna took a 20-18 lead.
The Warriors tied the game on three different occasions over the next two minutes before Susquehanna took a 31-28 lead into halftime.
A 3-pointer by Will Kelly (Williamsport, Pa.) tied the game at 31-31 to open the second half, but the Crusaders pushed the lead up to a game-high eight points, 43-35, with 13:17 to play.
Lycoming mounted a 12-3 run to go back on top, 47-46, with 8:01 to play. After another tie and lead change, Eric Anthony (Wheeling, W.V.) hit a 3-pointer to give the Warriors a 54-52 lead with 3:07 to play.
The Crusaders answered with a 9-0 run to pull away and closed the game with an 11-1 run to seal a 63-55 win.
Anthony led the team with 18 points and five rebounds. Kelly finished with 10 points and four rebounds, all in the second half after only playing two minutes in the first half due to foul trouble.
Greg Sye (Chantilly, Va.) finished with nine points, all in the first half, and was sidelined much of the second half with foul trouble. Anthony Watson (Philadelphia, Pa.) also had nine points and five rebounds.
Joel Patch led Susquehanna with game-highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Spenser Spencer added 15 points.
Susquehanna closed the game with a 43.5 (20-46) shooting percentage to Lycoming’s 29.8 (17-57). The Crusaders hit 8-of-18 (44.4%) 3-pointers to the Warriors’ 6-of-21 (28.6%).
Lycoming held a slight rebounding advantage, 39-34.
With the loss, the Warriors drop to 5-3 on the season. Susquehanna improves to 6-2.
Lycoming will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 17, when Cabrini travels to Williamsport for a 7 p.m. tip at Lamade Gymnasium. That game will be the final contest of the 2008 calendar year for all Lycoming teams.
